About the founder
Jim Meaney is an independent journalist and researcher of the Seneca Lake Monster legend and other unexplained phenomena and extraordinary history around the lake.
In 2015, he founded SenecaLakeMonster.com, and proposed an amendment to the Geneva, NY City Council (which was later adopted) to pass a law prohibiting the hunting, trapping or harming the legendary creature.
In 2021, Jim began exploring more of the strange and extraordinary history and unexplained phenomena in and around Seneca Lake, including the lake monster, UFO sightings, ghostly apparitions, the “Seneca Guns,” and much more, for a new project: Seneca Lake Mysteries. In 2025, he launched the Seneca Lake Mysteries podcast.
He has appeared on the History Channel’s hit show “The Proof Is Out There,” the long-running podcast “Where Did The Road Go?“, and in the New Yorker Magazine short documentary “A Restless Lake.”
He currently lives on the east side of Seneca Lake.
