About the founder
Jim Meaney is an independent journalist and researcher of the Seneca Lake Monster legend and other unexplained phenomena and extraordinary history around the lake.
In 2015, he founded SenecaLakeMonster.com, and proposed an amendment to the Geneva, NY City Council (which was later adopted) to pass a law prohibiting the hunting, trapping or harming the legendary creature. That same year, he spoke about the lake’s mysteries in a short New Yorker Magazine documentary entitled “A Restless Lake.” In 2016, Jim founded a local government watchdog blog and over the next five years, his reporting was cited in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the Finger Lakes Times, the Watertown Daily Times, and other regional media outlets.
In 2021, Jim began exploring more of the strange and extraordinary history and unexplained phenomena in and around Seneca Lake, including the lake monster, UFO sightings, ghostly apparitions, the “Seneca Guns,” and much more, for his latest project Seneca Lake Mysteries.
In 2025, he launched the Seneca Lake Mysteries podcast. He currently lives at the northern end of Seneca Lake.
